Happy 2nd Birthday, Jackson!

I cannot even believe my baby is two. Our free spirit. Our wild-haired man. Our airplane lover. Our littlest prince.

Jackson has really become his own little person this year - full of babbles and words, demands and fits, and wonderful silliness. From the very beginning, Jackson has been so laid back; he hardly ever cried as a baby, and he still doesn't. That's not to say he doesn't have ways of telling you what he wants, though. For instance, he went from pounding on the fridge saying, "MORE" when he wanted milk, to more recently, going up to the fridge door, tickling it, giggling, and saying, "More Milk."That's progress, I guess. He's not afraid to throw a fit when his brother takes something from him. Since he is usually so chill, his fits are pretty extreme and hilarious. He's a fan of a big pout and a loud "NO."

We wonder if he'll be our musician. He loves "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." Beware. If you do it once, he will demand you do it another 5,000 times. He also loves to sing "Twinkle, Twinkle." He doesn't get all of the words right, but the melody and gist of it are there. It's adorable, especially when he sings himself to sleep at night.

He loves Bubble Guppies, Little Einsteins, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He can typically be found cuddling with his brother and watching a show first thing in the morning. Jack is content to just sit and fly an airplane around him, but Ethan is desperate to really play with Jack. Those days are coming. Soon. When Jack is with Ethan, we hear crazy fits of laughter (usually followed by crazy fits of "NO" from one brother and crying from both). He loves Bailey and spends a lot of time petting her, saying, "Aww. Nice doggy." She lets him, even though he's rough and erratic. Nothing compares to playing outside - kicking a ball around, watching airplanes in the sky, swimming in our pool, taking walks down our street while Ethan rides his bike. Good times.

With Jack, there's nothing quite like him running to you, arms stretched up towards you and a big, silly smile on his face. This usually happens when you are eating something; our boy LOVES food. Especially bananas. Don't even think about eating a banana in his presence without sharing (or giving him the whole thing). He would prefer to feed himself, with a utensil, please. He would also prefer to shove 15 bites into his mouth at once, too. Back off, adults. He also loves to force a conversation early in the morning when mommy and daddy are still half-asleep on the couch. He'll come really close, say "hi" in his sweetest voice, then proceed to touch (and name) each part of our faces. It's even cute at 6 a.m.

So, our little man is two. Time is just flying; this time next year, I'll be getting him ready for pre-school. That can't be right! I love this age and all of the fun and learning that come with it; but, how I'd love to relive a few of those early days with Jack, holding him on my chest and relishing the fact that he would be my last baby. How can he be two? Slow down, Jack!

Jackson, you have been an incredible completion to our crazy family. We can't wait to see what fun you have this year (and what trouble you get into with Ethan). We have the following quote hung on Jackson's wall, and it so fits: "I'll love you forever/I'll like you for always/As long as I'm living/My baby you'll be." We don't care how quickly Jack grows up; he will forever be our golden-curled baby who loves eskimo kisses and eating bubbles in the tub.

Happy Birthday, baby.
