School has started. Hard to believe. I know we are both lucky to have 12 weeks together as a family, but summers just fly by and we never feel quite ready to start over in August. As AJ says, if you have a 'normal' Monday-Friday job, you dread Sunday nights. Our night before school starts is like that, only magnified by a ton. This summer was especially quick moving due to Baby J. We blinked and he was 10 weeks old and ready for the babysitter. Insane.
Our closets are switched over to dress clothes. I did a month's worth of lesson plans for the three courses I teach and had freshman orientation at my school. We did some last minute things around the house. We bought a new bed (anyone want a bedroom suit? We are selling it on Craigs List!) and organized the boys' toys. So many things we wanted to do (repaint our bedroom and bathroom, pull out shrubbery, etc.) didn't get done due to being trapped baby jail most hours of most days. But, now we are back in the school routine which leaves little room for home improvements.
Ethan kicked off the week with pre-school. We took him on Monday from 9-12, which is the pre-school session. He will attend daycare there also during the school year on the days he goes, but we wanted to test the waters on a smaller scale while we would still be home in case of melt down.
He was all ready the night before in his Lightening McQueen pj's. We took him to Build a Bear last week and let him make a special animal to take with him for nap time. He chose a puppy, also donning Lightening McQueen pj's. Too cute.

He has his own little book bag, which is pretty much the cutest thing in the world. He takes that, along with his Lightening McQueen sleeping bag, with him when he goes for full days. He is all ready!
First full day
He did GREAT on his first day. I stayed for about a half hour; he asked me to at first. I got to watch story time, prayer time, and a bit of singing since it was music week. It was so cute to see him sitting on the carpet, following along with the other kids. He was very well behaved - I was shocked! He was totally fine when I left, but I cried a bit in the car. Little man is getting so big!

When I picked him up at noon, he was sitting at the lunch table with the other kids being very good. He didn't cry when we left, which was good. He told me all about his day - they went on the playground, sang and clapped, ate a snack, etc. He did say that one little girl pulled his hair. He probably deserved it! And, he said he used the potty but couldn't figure out how to get his pants off. He didn't worry because his teacher, Miss Bonnie, helped him. Miss Bonnie was very complimentary towards Ethan - she said he did a great job for his very first day in a daycare-like setting. She said he listened well and seemed to make friends easily. Who knew?

We took him back on Wednesday for a full day. We wanted him to have the 'napping with other children around' experience before it was a real school day for us. I had envisioned him running rampant, singing at the top of his lungs, and keeping all of the other kids awake. But, alas, he surprised us again. Either that or the teachers have very low standards for behavior ;-)
Jackson also had a big week. He went to Children's Hospital on Wednesday for a follow up with a gastro-intestinal doctor. He got a clean bill of health and we've since taken him off of the Zantac. He has been doing great - eating and resting better instead of spitting it out then spitting up bottles! He spent Thursday and Friday with our beloved babysitter, Christine. We wanted her to get a feel for him and his schedule a few days before we sent both Kovall monsters. She is awesome and we are so glad to have her to care for our little men!

We have a birthday party tomorrow afternoon, and other than that, we are just going to try to relax while getting ready for students next week. Mine come on Monday and AJ's come on Tuesday. Here's to a good year!
